Nnamdi Okaa, popularly known as “Mista Dre,” is a creative enthusiast deeply immersed in the concurrent cultures of television, social media, and live performance.
He is an Event Host, Comic, Content Creator, Actor and Podcaster. Mista Dre’s introduction to the creative industry began in videography and video editing which gave rise to the signature, Shot By Dre. Through his opportunities working with brands and creative communities, Dre discovered his interest in speaking to an audience. He earned his start as an Event Host at his friend’s 25 th birthday soirée in 2013. He then began hosting cultural events at many Ontario universities, including the University of Waterloo, and he founded, hosted and directed an award show called “Le Rouge Affair” which celebrated and showcased up-and-coming talent in the diaspora.
After completing his university degree in 2015, Dre decided to pursue an active career in public speaking and community engagement and he quickly rose among his peers hosting several college and corporate events, weddings, comedy shows, and social gatherings. Since starting his hosting career, Dre has had the opportunity to host events with many international headliners including Davido, Basketmouth, Ycee, Bovi, and Lady Donli.
In addition to hosting events, Dre has managed to produce a music tour called “Something Dope” that went to 5 Canadian universities, and he wrote, directed and acted in theatre productions “Aunty, the Play,” and “Aunty, Why You Mad,” as well as his first comedy show, “Comedy Unplugged” which took place in 2019.
Dre’s most recent venture is his comedy podcast “Backyard Bants” which he began alongside his creative collective – The Talkative. With each new project, Dre continues to push the culture forward while creating and expanding a platform for creatives like himself.
Dre was an excellent host for our Online Covid Benefit Concert. He was energetic, organized and well versed in carrying the show.
